621. New steel bridge to provide relief to commuters in Jammu & Kashmir's Ramban district
- On december 11, 2025 it was reported that In Sangaldan, Gool tehsil of Ramban district in Jammu & Kashmir, GREF completed a ₹9-crore double-lane steel bridge over Chhapar Nallah, including 0.5-km approach roads, resolving a major bottleneck on the Ramban–Gool–Mahore route.
- GREF executed the project with steel super-structure construction and approach roads, addressing long-standing public hardships; local leaders and residents highlighted how frequent flooding earlier cut off access for commuters, patients, students and employees.
- The 45-m bridge aids 1.5 lakh people, prevents vehicle damage and travel delays, and supports tourism in Gool and Sangaldan; its proximity—10 km—to Sangaldan Railway Station further enhances safe, uninterrupted travel for train passengers.
622. Sonowal flags off first indigenous hydrogen fuel-cell vessel in Varanasi
- On On december 11, 2025 in Varanasi, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways launched commercial operations of India’s first indigenous hydrogen fuel-cell vessel at Namo Ghat, advancing the government’s clean inland water transport agenda.
- Union Minister emphasised that India developed the vessel indigenously, demonstrating readiness for alternative fuels. He credited Prime Minister leadership for accelerating technological progress and integrating green energy into India’s transport systems.
- The hydrogen vessel is part of inland-waterways modernisation initiatives focused on clean transport, better connectivity and public convenience; its launch places India alongside China, Norway, the Netherlands and Japan in operating hydrogen-powered vessels.
623. Haryana govt releases ₹1,700 crore to boost urban infrastructure development
- On December 10, 2025 At a press conference in Haryana, Chief Minister announced the release of ₹1,700 crore for HSVP and metropolitan development authorities to strengthen urban development across Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panchkula, and Hisar.
- CM and Minister detailed how funds from the EDC Fund—₹3,000 crore allotted for FY 2025–26—are being utilised, with ₹1,500 crore already released earlier and an additional ₹1,700 crore disbursed for urban estate development.
- The new ₹1,700-crore release includes ₹700 crore for HSVP, ₹700 crore for GMDA, ₹170 crore for FMDA, ₹30 crore for PMDA, ₹80 crore for SMDA and ₹20 crore for HMDA; ₹2,188 crore was released in FY 2024–25 for similar works.
624. Centre clears ₹65-crore Lakshadweep jetty and cruise terminal at Old Mangalore Port under Sagarmala
- During an environmental public hearing On december 10, 2025, officials confirmed approval to build a ₹65-crore dedicated Lakshadweep jetty, cargo berth and passenger cruise terminal at Old Mangalore Port under the Sagarmala Scheme.
- The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approved Lakshadweep administration’s request for a dedicated berth to reduce berthing delays; the state government and UT will sign an agreement after final clearances to implement the Sagarmala project.
- The jetty includes a 303.6-m cargo berth, 76-m passenger berth, wharf construction costing ₹38.6 crore, cruise lounge ₹5.4 crore, 1,000-MT godown, 7-m dredging, and amenities such as X-ray scanning, gardens, restaurants, security zones and fire-fighting systems.
625. Indian Railways 2nd largest freight carrying rail network in world: Minister
- On december 11, 2025,it was reported that Indian Railways’ freight loading rose from 1,233 MT in 2020–21 to 1,617 MT in 2024–25, making it the world’s second-largest freight carrier. Despite rising input costs, freight rates have not been revised since 2018 to remain competitive.
- Passenger fares were marginally increased from July 1, 2025, after more than five years, with hikes ranging from 0.5 to 2 paise per km depending on class. General class (up to 500 km), MST, and suburban fares remain unchanged to safeguard affordability for low- and middle-income passengers.
- Railways is undertaking large-scale network expansion with 431 sanctioned projects and near-complete (99.1%) electrification of the broad-gauge network. Since 2014, about 2 lakh wagons and over 10,000 locomotives have been added to increase freight capacity and operational efficiency
626. India’s first hydrogen-powered train: What’s special about it?
- On December 11, 2025 it was reported that In a Parliamentary reply, the Railways Minister announced completion of India’s first hydrogen-powered train—built on a pilot basis per RDSO specifications and supported by a dedicated hydrogen plant at Jind—advancing sustainable rail transport nationwide.
- Railways Minister explained that Indian Railways designed, prototyped and developed hydrogen traction technology indigenously; hydrogen is produced via electrolysis at Jind, enabling zero-emission operations and reflecting Atmanirbhar Bharat goals.
- The train is the world’s longest broad-gauge hydrogen train with 10 coaches, powered by two 1,200-kW Driving Power Cars (2,400 kW total). It emits only water vapor, and pilot-phase costs cannot yet be compared with diesel or electric counterparts.
627. India secures $135 billion in FDI commitments in 2025 amid global investment surge
- On Deceber 11, 2025, it was reported that India has received commitments worth at least $135 billion in 2025, with tech majors like Google, Microsoft and Amazon leading over $70 billion. Overall FDI inflows rose 16% in April–September, and officials expect total inflows to cross $100 billion for the first time.
- An additional 750–800 proposals worth over $65 billion are in process, spanning semiconductors, energy and manufacturing. This surge is seen as crucial to reversing strained net FDI levels caused by earlier repatriations and foreign investor exits.
- With foreign portfolio investors exiting and the rupee under pressure, long-term FDI is expected to provide stability. Technology leads the inflows, while the government pushes EV manufacturing to attract firms like Tesla, even as major global automakers have exited and Chinese EV players face caution.
628. Wheelchairs available at 5,868 railway stations across country to assist divyangjan and senior citizens: Ashwini Vaishnaw
- On December, 10, 2025, in a Lok Sabha reply, the Railway Minister announced that Indian Railways made wheelchairs available at 5,868 stations and deployed 196 battery-operated vehicles at 79 major stations to support Divyangjan and senior citizens.
- Railway Minister outlined measures including free wheelchairs, concessional online booking, automatic lower-berth allotment, SLRD coach reservation, dedicated counters, and on-board staff authorisation to reassign vacant lower berths to Divyangjan, pregnant women and senior citizens.
- Railways earmarked lower-berth quotas in Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC and 2S/CC classes; mandated seven seats for seniors in suburban trains; offered concessions for escorts; provided 196 BOVs—165 chargeable, 10 publicity-route free and 21 CSR-funded free.

629. Indian Army sets up full-scale field hospital in flood-hit Sri Lanka under Op Sagar Bandhu
- On December 11, 2025, the Indian Army contingent deployed in Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu has established and operationalised a fully functional field hospital in one of the region's worst-hit areas devastated by floods, providing urgent medical relief to thousands of affected citizens.
- Surveillance drones were used for aerial mapping to plan the hospital layout in flood-affected terrain. HVAC-equipped medical tents allowed the rapid creation of a sterile and fully operational Operation Theatre.
- With these capabilities, the contingent has already provided medical assistance to over 5,000 patients, offering treatment as well as emotional reassurance to families grappling with the crisis.
- The Medical Task Force consists of 85 personnel, including specialist doctors, surgeons, engineers, signalers and logistics teams.
630. MDL, Indian Navy and Brazilian Navy Sign Trilateral MoU to Enhance Scorpène-Class Submarine Maintenance and Maritime Cooperation
- On December 10, 2025, it was reported that, In New Delhi, MDL signed a trilateral MoU with the Indian Navy and Brazilian Navy to collaborate on Scorpène-class submarine maintenance, information exchange and naval partnership as part of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi’s visit-linked engagements.
- Admiral Tripathi, Adm Marcos Olsen and Capt Jagmohan formalised cooperation through structured information-sharing, joint maintenance practices, logistics support, technical training and enhanced government–industry collaboration to improve life-cycle sustainment of submarines and naval platforms.
- The MoU supports defence R&D, submarine engineering innovation, and joint repair methods; follows Brazil’s defence delegations to India; and aligns with the Modi–Lula strategic roadmap prioritising defence, cybersecurity, classified-information cooperation and increased military exercises under the India–Brazil partnership.
